In the last week of October 2009, Eileen and I made the delivery of the  twin music cabinets to Galen and Glenda Mack in Rugby, North Dakota.
Galen and Glenda are friends of mine from college days when we sang together in the NDSU Concert Choir.

We drove north to the UP to spend the first night. I hate driving at night . It was pretty dark by the time we were about 25 minutes south of the Mackinac Bridge that spans Michigan's Upper and Lower peninsulas. Driving with a purpose is not always advised unless that purpose is slow enough to avoid whacking the hind end of a deer with the front right bumper of my Ford 150. Needless to say I was not driving slow enough and I had my first and I hope only deer hit of 2009. As it was very dark we couldn't see what happened to the deer. I kept driving albeit a bit slower and with a snarky mood that would last well into the next day-even though the truck sustained no apparent damage.

A long 13 hour drive from the Eastern UP to Grand Forks ended in more night time driving but no deer hunting. We had dinner that evening at my sisters' house .
Then it was off to Rugby. The day started off rather cloudy and dark ....

.....but by the time we reached Rugby the clouds were lightening up.

We stopped at the Center of NA Monument for a Photo Op.
Rugby North Dakota is the Geographical Center of the North American Continent.
Then it was on to Galen and Glenda's for a wonderful afternoon and evening. It was so good to see them again .
We were blessed to have two other choir friends join us.
Rachel Neumann Markestad and her husband Dean made the trip from Maddock,
and Rich Fitzer also came up from Jamestown.
Galen and Glenda served up a FEAST!
We shared many happy memories from our days at NDSU when we sang in the Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers.
Here are several of us from the 1981 Madrigal Dinner.
Galen was very emotional!

A group shot before we parted our separate ways.

Our reminiscing lasted till 11:30 in the evening .
and as I pulled out of Rugby I found myself again driving in the dark with heavy eyes and a
full heart till 2:30 in the morning when we arrived back at Dad's .
I did some final prep work in my Dad's shop before delivery of the cabinets.
