This chess set was designed and built for my Son-in-law when he took a new Job with a Start-Up in San Francisco. The set reflects the color schemes of the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders football teams.
The drawer knobs are also shaped like footballs.
The playing pieces are turned from aluminum stock and filled with lead pellets for a bit more "heft". The pawns are turned to resemble footballs. The finish for the playing pieces is automotive model paint.
The storage drawers are covered in green flocking.
I made nine pawns -one extra for each set in case one gets misplaced.
The playing squares are 2" by 2". They were individually cut pieces of 1/8th inch plywood- each color scheme is spray painted then glued to a larger 1/2" plywood board. A double frame in Black and Red complete the top. Two layers of poured epoxy finish give the top a durable, smooth, unified playing surface.
